Greetings fellow artists!

I hope that you are getting excited about our upcoming Spring Meeting and Show in Duluth. I am sure that it is going to be a wonderful gathering. I’m looking forward to seeing you there. As an aside though—if you have display panels that you would be willing to let the folks in Duluth use could you please let Tom Hoff or me know as soon as possible. It would help with the planning.

Right now I am in Charlottesville, VA, doing some illustration and design work as part of my sabbatical project. I have had the luxury of time to spend doing pen and ink illustrations (about as old fashioned as you can get) and then switching over and using the computer to color a drawing in an amazingly short amount of time. I have also had the chance to meet a number of really interesting biologists, artists, and designers, and hear their opinions on various and sundry aspects of my project. All-in-all, it has been a great experience. One of the great side benefits of spending time in Virginia at this time of the year is that it is really spring and the progression of flowering plants is truly amazing. I have gotten to watch the progression of pears, redbuds, dogwoods and many other flowering trees and shrubs. And if you can drag your eyes away from the spectacular trees and look at the forest floor there has been a wonderful transition of hepaticas, bloodroots, spring beauties, and we’re now getting May apples, bellworts and trilliums coming in along with dozens of other “minor” players. Frogs and tree crickets are calling at night and birds are filling the daytime hours with song. It is a great place to celebrate spring. Tomorrow I plan to visit Monticello and
see the Jefferson gardens. That should be fun.

So make your plans and get on up to Duluth. There will be great people, great art, and fun stories to share.

See you soon.

Peace,
Jim

PS. Here’s a little guy I’ve worked on today. Just to reassure you that I am doing some work down here.
