Meet the Show Judge

Dan Mondloch is from St. Cloud where he graduated from SCSU with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting and Drawing in 2007. He operates a studio in his home, and in his professional life he balances studio art with commission work, murals, and teaching. He became a rostered teaching artist for the Central MN Arts Board in 2012. In 2013 he received a McKnight Emerging Artists Award and Career Development grant from the Central MN Arts Board. In March of 2013, Dan was awarded an Artist’s Initiative grant from the Minnesota State Arts board to continue a body of work and expand to regional markets. Recently an interest in more community centered artwork has led to local architecture paintings as well as a public art project at Seberger Park in St. Cloud.

“I am a 3rd generation landscape painter,” says Dan, “following in the footsteps of my parents and great grandfather. Painting landscape to me was always about being close to nature, having special moments, and a connection to the land that I just felt compelled to talk about through paint. Lately I’ve also been thinking about how landscape painting can be more than a representation of visual beauty or amazing light, and take on more meaning as to how we relate to the natural world or describe some unique sense of place. This renewed my interest in Plein Air.
